One day, a resident of Gloucester, England, was out for a walk when he saw someone get out of a white van and threw a plastic bag in the trash. Something about it seemed odd, so the guy went over to investigate, and thank goodness they did.

Turns out it wasn’t a plastic bag – it was an 8-week-old puppy.

The man was shocked to find that the puppy had been thrown away like garbage. They picked her up quickly and took her directly to the veterinarian, who then contacted RSPCA’s Cotswolds Cat and Dog Home for help.

“Poor Winnie was brutally thrown into the bin like rubbish,” Haley Medlock of Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home said in a release. “This is totally shocking. We believe she suffered from a deformity of one front leg. Abandoned, which caused her elbows to fuse at an angle that made her unable to walk. Maybe her owners couldn’t afford the veterinary treatment she needed, or, as a breeder, may have felt they couldn’t sell in this situation and Abandon her. No matter what, abandoning her, leaving her so helpless, is totally unacceptable.”

In addition to her deformed legs, Winnie suffered several seizures after arriving at the RSPCA’s care center, which they are actively investigating. Despite her health issues, she is a very happy, playful puppy and everyone is so grateful for her second life.

“She’s a very playful girl,” Winnie’s adoptive mother, Ebony Poole, said in a release. “She loves her playtime, and then she’ll curl up in my lap and take a nap.”

Winnie will undergo surgery to remove her deformed leg in about 15 weeks, followed by physiotherapy and hydrotherapy to help her adjust to living with only three legs. The rescue had already spent a lot of money on Winnie’s care, but they were willing to do whatever it took. After everything she’s been through, they want to make sure she has the happiest life she could possibly have.

“She is my biggest concern right now, and I hope the public will help us take care of Winnie and end the neglect she already suffered at eight weeks of age,” Poole said.

Winnie still faced some challenges before she was ready for adoption, but in the meantime, she received a lot of love and care from rescuers.

“She enjoyed her time with Ebony and was already learning new tricks,” Medlock said. “She is a very cute, friendly puppy and we hope that once she has the surgery, her future will be bright. She should be able to make a full recovery and live a happy life with only three legs!”
