Bonnie was rescued from the local shelter by Grandma Betty’s animal rescue team, just five minutes before she was put down. There was something in her big brown eyes that told them she was the cutest dog ever and just needed a chance to show it, and they were totally right.

Shortly after Bonnie was rescued, Lily Follett came forward for adoption and quickly fell madly in love with the adorable Pitty.

“She’s the cutest, most loyal dog I’ve ever seen,” Follett told The Dodo. “She loves meeting new people and is very trusting. She’ll immediately put her head on your lap…she’ll follow me around my apartment like a duckling – no matter what I’m doing, she will be more than a few feet away from me! She waits for me to wake up every morning and walks up to me to get her morning pet. If I don’t pet her long enough, she’ll get closer to me until I give her enough Love!”

Follett knew that any family would be lucky enough to adopt Bonnie and set out to find the perfect partner for her, but unfortunately encountered many fears and misunderstandings.

“Before wearing a hat, most people would give us dirty looks and purposely walk off the sidewalk to walk around us instead of just walking past us,” Follett said. “Most people were visibly nervous or upset when they saw her. Seeing people’s reactions to her made me realize that without big changes, she would never have been adopted.”

Bonnie is the cutest dog around, but unfortunately, a lot of people don’t see that – so Follett came up with an idea.

To make Bonnie more approachable and allay people’s fears of dislocation, Follett bought her a propeller hat. After all, who would be afraid of a dog in a propeller cap? Bonnie loved the hat, so Follett started taking her out and the reaction to her was almost immediate.

“When people see Bonnie in a hat, they smile, laugh, and definitely try to interact with her more,” Follett said. “Almost every time I took her out for a walk, we slowed the car down and shouted how cute she was out the window. Parents preferred to let their kids play with Bonnie. More would stop us and ask to pet her, which allowed me to have a great conversation about dog ownership and adoption.”

Bonnie is the same dog with or without a propeller hat, but the hat can help people shake off the untrue stereotypes they may have heard about bulldogs and learn about the sweet dog underneath it.

Follett goes to great lengths to make sure people can see Bonnie’s real identity. She hoped the propeller cap would help her find the perfect forever home – and it did.

After her propeller hat went viral on TikTok, someone saw Bonnie’s story and decided to adopt her. Bonnie is currently back at Grandma Betty’s Animal Rescue, waiting to be transported to her new home in Virginia. It’s the best ending anyone could hope for, and Bonnie can’t wait to settle in with her new family – and of course, a lot of walking around her new neighborhood in a propeller hat.
