When it comes to helping furry friends in need, this shepherd is up to the task. Sarge takes every opportunity to comfort an orphaned animal in need, and he shines in this role!
Sarge’s mom, Cheryl, helps rehabilitate local wildlife in desperate situations. She welcomes them into her home to give them the safety and comfort they need to return to the wild, and Sarge is by her side every step of the way.
Cheryl and Sarge’s first orphaned fawn was a sweet baby named Buckwheat, found alone on the road. As soon as Cheryl introduced Sarge to her new foster fawn, it was as if he knew this was his life’s purpose!
Sarge immediately jumped at the opportunity to guide Buckwheat through life. Sarge was there to offer hugs at will, help Buckwheat stand on his feet, and even help him gain the confidence to explore on his own.
“When we’d take Buckwheat outdoors, Sarge walked alongside him and kept him from wandering. As Buckwheat grew and began venturing out on his own a little more, we would have Sarge go find him and bring him back home.” – Cheryl
Buckwheat was eventually rehabilitated and released back into the wild, but Sarge’s love for wildlife protection was ignited. Word spread around town about this awesome dog helping to feed wildlife, and Sarge quickly became the local wildlife rehabilitator!
Before they knew it, Cheryl’s phone kept ringing to inform her that a new fawn needed help in the area. Just as happy as Sarge took care of Buckwheat, he continues to take care of every orphan that comes into their home.
“When I walk in the door carrying a fawn, Sarge springs into action. He wants to check them over and he will frantically sniff and nose around to determine their condition. The fawns are drawn to Sarge and feel safe in his presence. Sarge won’t leave their side.” – Cheryl
